ChemLLMathon®

Welcome to ChemLLMathon!

What is ChemLLMathon?

It is a pre-conference in-person Hackathon event where people work together to bring a chemistry solution using a Large Languague Model (LLM) in a short period of time (less than 48 hours).
The word ChemLLMathon comes from combining “chemistry”, “Large Langugage Model” and “Marathon. In this aspect, we propose to have different themes within the event which includes presentations, posters, a competition and sponsors during the in-person ChemLLMathon!
We are calling every chemist, AI enthusiasts, Materials Scientists, High School, Undergraduate students and most importantly anyone with a passion for chemistry and AI to bring innovative solutions harnessing the power of Large Language models.

Track 01

Generative AI in Chemistry
for Beginners

Details

Targeted Participants:

High School Students or people with no experience in LLM (or AI) at all

Focus:

Providing hands-on activities using simple, user-friendly generative AI tools (e.g. Midjourney, ChatGPT) and generate simple images (e.g. 2D molecular structure, chemical reaction diagrams, or product prediction for simple synthesis reactions, making database for properties of chemicals and materials).

Outcomes:

Presentation slides.

Evaluation Criteria

Track 02

Advancing Chemistry with Generative AI for Everyday Users

Details

Targeted Participants:

High School Students or undergraduate students or people who uses generative AI apps (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini or Poe) for everyday tasks and information lookup.

Focus:

Deep dive into LLM and their capabilities, Techniques for prompt engineeringa and fine-tuning generative models, introduction of multimodal generative AI (text-to-image, text-to-video, etc.) and discusses of model limitations, hallucinations and biases. For instance, the user generate detailed reaction mechanisms, or pathways for organic synthesis, design novel molecular structures with desired properties, or predict the NMR/IR spectroscopy of a chemical compound or optimize the reaction conditions for synthesis of a catalyst for improved yield.

Outcomes:

Presentation slides or software or website or an application or a code.

Evaluation Criteria

Track 03

Cutting-Edge Research in Generative AI in Chemistry for Professionals

Details

Targeted Participants:

Graduate students, researchers, professors, and professionals working in the field of generative AI in Chemistry.

Focus:

Identify the challenges and opportunities offered by led experts in using generative AI for chemistry applications throughout their publications/presentations, develop novel generative model designs (e.g. multi-task models) for chemistry applications, identify a new research direction in the area while incorporating domain-specific knowledge and constraints.

Outcomes:

Presentation slides or software or website or an application or a code and a prototype.
